The Trade, Investment, Science and Technology Section of the Commercial and Economic Division has a requirement for a Business Development Officer (Health Industries) to join its team, based at Grosvenor Square, London W1.

Job Summary:
The Trade Commissioner provides trade advice and guidance to Canadian companies and organisations, and implements a programme of International Business Development for the health industries sector. The position provides policy recommendations to senior management, and cultivates and maintains strong working relationships with UK businesses, associations and governmental contacts. A current knowledge of the UK political, economic and regulatory context as it relates to health industries is required in order to evaluate trends and developments and find opportunities for Canadian companies to export their goods and services, for UK companies to expand or invest in Canada, and for Canadian and UK companies to build innovative partnerships.

Essential Requirements: University degree in health sciences, international business/marketing, economics or related discipline. Previous commercial experience in international trade promotion. Minimum of 4 years related commercial experience in UK working/business environment. Experience with sales and marketing and investment promotion as related to health industries, including medical and healthcare technologies, products and services (medical devices, equipment, etc.), pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, clinical trials and other related areas. Strong project management, customer service, networking skills. Broad knowledge of UK market in order to promote and represent adequately the interests of Canada and Canadian business. Good knowledge of local conditions, practices, policies, procedures and regulations as they relate to the health industries sector.

Must have strong communication skills both orally and in writing. English essential.

Proven experience in use of a broad range of software packages, including email, word processing and databases. Knowledge of a Windows environment, Outlook, Word and the Internet are particularly relevant.

A written test will be administered, only those candidates meeting the required pass mark will proceed to interview

Desirable Qualifications:
Knowledge of French.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Hours of work will be 37.5 hours per week worked Mondays to Fridays.
Starting salary £37,758 per annum plus excellent benefits package.
Any job offer is subject to receipt of satisfactory employment and character references and the ability to retain an Enhanced Reliability security screening (including a criminal record check). Copies of educational qualifications will be required at the interview stage of the selection process.

Open To: Candidates who are resident in the UK, eligible to work in the UK, meet all of the essential requirements stated above, and whose applications are received by the closing date. Those candidates holding visas that are not renewable in the UK, such as participants in the Youth Mobility Program, will not be considered for this employment. The High Commission does not reimburse any travel costs. The Canadian High Commission does not sponsor work permit applications on behalf of candidates.
